The trip raised a total of just under £17,000 to be donated to two charities. The St Giles Hospice and Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign. You supported us with the stunning amount of £5690.00 + Gift Aide (tax back) of £1005.42 total £6,695.42. Your donations are to Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign and they have asked we sent this note to you: - Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign would like to say a huge thank you to Dick and Paul and everyone who sponsored them for their 'Get the Wine Love' adventure. Bowel cancer affects 1-10 families and is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. However it is treatable and curable if caught early enough. The money raised by Dick, Paul and you will make a huge difference to our work and will help to save several lives from this all too common cancer. Many thanks Speed was clearly not the key criteria for winning this trip, the only time we saw the front of any of the other cars was in the car park. Some of those beasts could do 100mph more than our top speed of 90. Sat Nav was not the answer either; other competitors were taken down some interesting cart tracks; didn't they know they needed regular updating. Good old map reading was the answer and congratulations are due to Paul, king of the navigators for his great guess work. Plus the previously unknown advantage that a gearbox enhancement had provided. It appeared to reduce our mileage by 3 – 4%. Needless to say when this became evident a stewards enquiry was requested. Again your donations came into play and the volume of your support overruled any objections and carried the day. True teamwork from us all. Prize Competition: - Mileage on the clock 1098 As you will see from the web site this was won by Paul's PA Barbara. She Guessed 1109 miles. Fortunately to dispel any rumours of further fixing it was entered before the trip. When asked how she had worked this out she replied she had guessed the mileage based on the fact that she sponsored us on the 9th of November i.e. 1109 !!!! Unbelievable and worrying female logic!! Well done Barbara Worst Guess And winner of a pot of Dijon mustard is Craig Brodie. Craig put in 2000 miles. 902 off the mark. This you would think is not that remarkable just a poor guess, however Craig is M.D. of a temporary drivers business providing HGV drivers etc. I must find out if they charge by the mile??? All in all an excellent trip, a lot of fun and with your support a lot of good will be done. Well done everyone and Big Big thanks Paul & Dick
