Business Direct to raise money for Bowel Cancer Research and St Giles Hospice in Lichfield

DATE: 5th November 2007

A charity fundraising 'gumball rally' style race is planned by 20 local businessmen using a number of sporting cars to raise a significant amount of money for the Lynn Faulds-Wood Bowel Cancer Campaign and the local hospice in Lichfield.

Setting off from the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on 15th November, the ten teams will collect Beaujolais Nouveau from Epernay and Dijon, France and carry out several tasks under strict scrutiny before returning home on 17th November.

Competition

Each team is committed to raising a minimum of £5000 To help beat this target, all BD staff and suppliers are being encouraged to donate £10 (or whatever people can afford).

Chief Executive Paul Carvell is offering a case of wine for the nearest guess to the mileage actually travelled…and a jar of Dijon mustard for the worst. To help you make an educated guess here is the travel itinerary.

Travel itinerary

Thursday 15th November - Travel to Folkestone Euro Tunnel - drive onto Epernay via a 'one task stop' and meet at Hostellerie La Briqueterie

Friday 16th November - visit to Moet and Chandon champagne house – then drive onto Dijon and visit vineyard (tbd) to collect Beaujolais Nouveau then check into Chateau de Gilly

Saturday !7th - return to Calais Euro Tunnel via a 'one stop task' and back to finish at the motorcycle museum with final mileage scrutiny.

Remember to put mileage guessed in the "comments" section of the site (see travel itinerary for help with your guess)

The name of winner (and loser) of our competition will be published on our website in the week after the event.

Presentation Lunch and Fundraising Auction

If you would like to be involved further, come and support the rally drivers at a presentation lunch and fundraising auction on Sunday 18th November at Chandlers Restaurant in Lichfield. For tickets contact Jo Parry on 0121 351 6969.

The race is 100% privately funded so all donations go straight to the charities. Paul will be driving a 40 year old, Inspector Morse style Jaguar.
