New £10m Computacenter deal builds bright future for Business Direct

DATE: 16 February 2007

Computacenter UK, a leading European provider of IT infrastructure services, has signed a new £10m contract with Business Direct.

This major new business win comes only a few weeks after Business Direct secured an additional £3m investment from the City to help develop the Specialist Division’s business and grow the company’s award winning ParcelXchange, national intelligent locker box distribution system network.

This new multi-million pound long-term contract with Computacenter builds on a successful commercial relationship with Business Direct that has been built up over 8 years.

Business Direct uses its Specialist Division’s two-man delivery service operating vehicles fitted with tail-lifts and stair walkers to deliver direct to the employee’s desk, unpack, remove any packaging and test the product. Business Direct’s ’implanted’ team of six experienced warehouse staff receive and despatch all the computer equipment through Specialist Division’s technical courier service which has the capacity and capability to install from one to 1000 computers in a day.

Business Direct’s same day courier network in the UK and Europe also delivers urgent consignments on time while its international services offer Computacenter deliveries to desk and unpacking operations around the World.

Computacenter also utilises Business Direct’s innovative ‘through the night’ ParcelXchange to offer specific customers a cost effective early morning delivery solution. Business Direct’s dedicated customer service team in Watford proactively monitors all the logistics operations for Computacenter and provides them with key information on collections and deliveries helping Business Direct to achieve in excess of 99% on time delivery accuracy.

“This new long-term contract with Computacenter is a major confidence boost hot on the heels of the £3m investment,” commented Paul Carvell Chief Executive of Business Direct. “We are delighted that Computacenter can see the benefits to their business and their customers of our broad range of added value services and are buying into our long term development.”

Business Direct was founded in 1993 with headquarters in Rugby, and was the first stock market quoted intelligent box company. The company now employs over 400 people at 12 depots across the UK with an annual turnover in excess of £16m.

ParcelXchange is a technically advanced drop box distribution system for companies with a need for a secure delivery solution. Normally located on petrol station and supermarket forecourts the 4000 lockers provide field based personnel with 24/7 access to highly secure visible sites with easy vehicle access.

In-night division, which incorporates ParcelXchange, intelligent locker distribution system, and an in-boot service, where deliveries from as far afield as continental Europe are made through the night to engineers vehicles.

In addition to traditional same-day and next-day courier activities and warehousing facilities, Specialist division also provides time-specific two-man delivery solutions and technical plug and play services.

Finally, Business Direct has realised the unlimited potential of the ParcelXchange solution and formed a division to market this unique product on a Worldwide basis.
